It's August, everyone's on holiday so what should I work on this month?

Whilst it's a dream to travel on the roads in rush hour at this time of year it also means that everyone seems to be off work looking after their little darlings or out of the country sunning themselves! This may of course means that they aren't buying your products or using your services. Not to worry though, use this quiet period productively to help maximise your marketing tactics when things pick up by doing these key tasks.

1. Build and cleanse your databases

A time consuming but hugely rewarding task to complete! If you've got clients contact details scattered around sit and put them all in an organised database that you can use to quickly send them promotions at busier times.

2. Send a 'thank you'card to someone who has helped your business this year. Taking the time to thank someone who has gone the extra mile for you will make them more likely to endorse you and do it again!

3. Check your vital statistics! Do you know what your best sellers are, when your busiest online sales days are, how many people are visiting your website? SPend some time looking at your stats and use the information to target your clients more effectively.

4. Get up to date with your social media profiles. Go through some of your most recent Twitter followers and follow them back. Likewise with your Facebook fans, like and comment on the pages that appeal to you and have similar client audiences.

5. Freshen up your website. Make sure all the information is up-to-date and that there are no errors on it. Your website is the first thing a prospective client will check out so make sure it makes a good first impression.

6. Think of a promotion for next month. Back to school, heading into Autumn - September marks a period of change for many people after the summer break, can you and your business offer clients a promotion to capitalise on this feeling?

7. Check out the competition! Spend sometime visiting or Googling the competition. Knowing what they are offering and the way in which they operate will help you to stay one step ahead.

8. And finally...Google yourself! Where do you rank amongst the competition? Do you need to invest in some online promotion to be seen? Google Adwords can help to put you at the top of the list when prospective clients are looking for your products and services.
